” Preferences vary from one listener to the next, but I enjoyed the DSD record dubs more than those tracks recorded with 192 kHz PCM. The only problem with DSD is that it doesn’t lend itself to easy editing or processing like PCM. For example, when dealing with problem vinyl (vinyl with excessive scratches and/or wear and tear), the AudioGate4 does not offer extensive de-noising. So I used a separate de-noise program. I recorded problem vinly in PCM via the KORG, then used iZotope’s De-click plug-in from their RX 6 Audio Repair plug-in suite.”

” After extended listening sessions, I have found that a buzz came up in one of the channels sporadically, the first time this ended up being the early signs of a drive tube failure. This gave me an opportunity to utilize the fantastic built in biasing mechanism, not automatic, but not far from it. It is easy enough that anyone could perfectly bias the tube, while giving you the confidence they are all set perfectly. I preferred this technology to any auto biasing tube amp, I just never quite trust those things The second time was right before I finished the review, but I am just making note of this for transparency, I am sure CJ would take care of you just as well as they took care of me.”

“I mentioned before that Technics is aiming for the audiophile with this headphone and that reflects in the price. Yes, Technics does use nothing but quality materials and a double driver but the price at the moment still is a little over €/$1000 and that puts it in Audeze, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic and Hifiman territory. Brands known for having excellent sounding “audiophile” headphones. Can Technics compete with them sound-wise? You’re about to find out.”

” As I’ve gotten older my sensitivity in the upper treble has become limited to 14kHz. So commenting on treble extension is something I realize needs a qualifier. But one test I’ve found very useful when testing a headphone’s upper-frequency response is a sinewave sweep in mono from 15kHz to 500Hz via the Audiotest app on my Mac. This test reveals several things. First, if there’s any imbalance between the right and left channel at high frequencies the signal will move off the central position it should occupy towards the side with higher output”
