“Vocals, whilst neutral and not that far forward have superb control for both male and female vocals with decent space to breathe. They do not have the thickest sound but they come across as accurate and most importantly not a sibilant tone to be seen anywhere between 1 – 4k.”

HIGHRES AUDIO TO STOP OFFERING MQA

March 10, 2017 Comments Off on HIGHRES AUDIO TO STOP OFFERING MQA

Read Here

“HIGHRESAUDIO has stopped offering MQA. MQA is NOT lossless, the original signal is never recovered, estimate to recover at most 17bits (reduces the sampling rate), reduces the frequency range, SNR reduced by 3bit, aliasing with artifacts at 18kHz. MQA encoding filters manipulates drastically the original source. No analysis tools are available to verify the encoded MQA content. Therefore no quality control is possible. highresaudio.com stands for offering purity, original mastering source, none manipulated, tweaked or up-sampled content and codecs that are widely supported and offer use of freedom. ”

” Yamamoto A03S has shown its real nature and DNA through rendition of copious harmonic guitar notes structure and not detached reality as with many of the tube amplifiers. A03S formed a performance of both emotional and realism bound. ”

MAGICO S1 MK II LOUDSPEAKER $16,500 Review

March 9, 2017 Comments Off on MAGICO S1 MK II LOUDSPEAKER $16,500 Review

” Needless to say, Magico’s S1 Mk II isn’t a perfect loudspeaker. While the S1 Mk II is undeniably a full-range speaker, it’s still a relatively small one, and if your room is big, and your taste runs to large-scale music, and you like to listen to that music at life-like levels, you’re going to be disappointed. More existentially, we all know that there is no such thing as a “perfect loudspeaker.” That transducer would have to produce sound that, objectively and subjectively, was indistinguishable from the real thing—and that ain’t happening, at least in my lifetime.”

ULTIMATE EARS PRO REFERENCE REMASTERED CUSTOM IN-EAR MONITORS $1,000 REVIEW

March 9, 2017 Comments Off on ULTIMATE EARS PRO REFERENCE REMASTERED CUSTOM IN-EAR MONITORS $1,000 REVIEW

READ HERE

” A $1000 budget for an in-ear monitor opens up a lot of options. One of the best choices in universal fit in-ears is the Astell&Kern AK8iE. The Astell&Kern single Tesla driver has superb phase coherence that translates into impressive three-dimensional imaging and clarity. The Ultimate Ears Pro Reference Remastered has the potential for a better fit since it is a custom in-ear, but the AK8iE’s large comply tips proved to be almost as comfortable for long-term wear as the UERRs.”

“The deck has appeared on high-end audio marketplace Audiogon (via The Vinyl Factory). It’s the Technics SP10 MK3 NGS, which was originally conceived back in the early 1980s. This one, however, has been hand-built and finished by Artisan Fidelity, which specialises in this kind of thing.”

Cayin HA-1A MK2 tube headphone amp Review

March 8, 2017 § 1 Comment

READ HERE

” Tube amps live or die by the quality of their output transformers (unless we’re talking OTL designs, of course). I wouldn’t expect Cayin to cram premium Lundahl or Cinemag pieces in there while maintaining that $999 sticker. Cayin’s compromise is to source its own EI core output transformers using Z11 grade silicon steel and a proprietary layered winding configuration. The EI core power transformer is of similar construction, with Cayin describing it as a “large-capacity, low-leakage design.” The goal here is competent — if not exotic — components in a well-thought-out design, making the most of available resources while keeping that reasonable price intact.”
