” And clean too. Not sterile clean… not crazy nutty bat-shit clean. No the Quatros’ “clean” is heard in their resolution. Their truth to tone and decay. Their presence and scale. The timing, rhythm, and pace. Tactile and palpable. Texture. Sounds are there in a wonderful sense of being natural and real… even though they were created by a machine or via electronic manipulation—at least on our music. For sure real instruments sound real… well I guess as real as anything recorded and played back in a defined space can sound real. I mean we hear what we feel things should sound like… what we want them to sound like. And for sure our music sounds more musical and less artificial or reproduced. We hear more of what we want and get into it way more than before. Which is what it is all about.”

Rega Planar 1 Review

“The Essential II by no means leaves the duel red faced, and we must keep in mind our reference system – far beyond anything these turntables are likely to find as partners – is exposing these discrepancies with an inordinate amount of transparency, but it is hard to come to any other conclusion than that Rega have raised the bar here in almost every respect.”

Noble Audio Trident Review

“With or without a DAC, the Noble Trident earphones offer a good sense of control, but like an overworked party host, they sometimes sound too busy to have fun.
We’d like them to strike down harder on drum beats, and fleet through the piano sequence with more drive. Dynamics could be a little subtler, too.”

MARK LEVINSON AUDIO SYSTEMS 585 INTEGRATED AMP AND DAC £10,500 – REVIEW

“Levinson describes the 585 as its Swiss Army Knife and, while I get where that’s coming from, I think it’s selling this product short. The classic do-it-all tool will allow you to get most jobs done – just about. The 585 does pretty much everything and does it so well that it really does deliver on the simple is better promise of integrated electronics solutions. This is the heart and soul of a genuinely great, genuinely high-end system: just add source components and speakers, and you’ll end up with a set up that doesn’t just stand head and shoulders above its peers”

“A few sonic characteristics stand out; excellent clarity, superb control from bottom to top, and a very convincing portrayal of the sound image in every dimension. Music entered the barn completely separate and detached from my speakers, opening up well beyond their physical placement while the sound image remained rock solid and stable. Very nice.”

For $1200, one gets floorstanding speaker with a pair of five inch woofers and a one-inch tweeter, a cabinet that is free of audible resonances, can be driven by a low-powered amplifier, integrated amp, or receiver, is full-range, and performs well-outside its price-class with its rather neutral, musical sound. The Q Acoustics Concept 40 is not only a bargain; it is a darn good speaker.”

CAMPFIRE AUDIO ANDROMEDA $1099 Review

“CA have been clever with the treble tuning and certainly the resonating chamber design makes it mark by offering excellent extension and clarity combined with an FR curve that, whilst elevated, is not peaky. Forwardness is apparent around 7-10k but it is not a straight up and down tuning thank god, there a mild plateau that keeps sharpness satisfyingly in check. So whilst you get the impression of the Andromeda being revealing and lively with little in the way of roll-off you just wouldn’t term it as being inherently bright or too strident.”

“Although bass is pleasing – not only solid and taut, but fairly deep and agile too – it’s not the star of the show. That’s the midrange, which is one of the most focused and pure we’ve heard at this level.”
