PS AUDIO BHK SIGNATURE 300 MONO POWER AMPLIFIER $15,000 REVIEW

” You don’t produce a superb-sounding amplifier by choosing the wrong circuit. At the same time, I believe Paul’s comments do more to reflect how much a search for the best possible sound, the experience of the design team, and a deep commitment to creating the best product contribute to an amplifier’s success. The way products evolve are a critical part of its design, and often a part that explains a great deal more about their character and performance than any technical data.”

The anatomy of perfect hi-res audio

“Qobuz demands that the studio masters it receives from its partnering record labels are at a minimum resolution of 24-bit/88kHz, and the files it serves go as high as 24-bit/192kHz. With 24 bits, your audio signal can be expressed 16,777,216 ways – that’s a far greater sampling frequency, with more ways of expressing the resulting sample. Also, through Qobuz’s process of turning a studio master into a user-ready file, there’s no upsampling, and no interference with the integrity of the audio.

Acoustic Research AR-M2 hi-rez portable player Review

” Acoustic Research doesn’t include lossily-compressed MP3 or AAC files in the list of formats the AR-M2 will play. However, it did play a 256kbps AAC file of Nat King Cole singing “Nature Boy” (Capitol), which I’d bought from iTunes, as well as a 256kbps MP3 file of “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” from Smashing Pumpkins’ (Rotten Apples) Greatest Hits (Virgin), purchased from Amazon. Also, AR lists DXD files under the formats supported, which are sampled at 352.8kHz. I don’t have any DXD files, but playing a WAV file of a 1kHz tone sampled at 384kHz resulted in pink noise.”

Pylon Audio Sapphire 23 Loudspeakers Review

“These features will also emerge in the case of any other material and make us enthusiastic each time. When we get used to such presentation, any other will seem flat to us, even if it is more natural. The price of this is lower bass saturation and a lack of a solid “foundation” under the sound. The instruments are not precisely focused within their 3D images and they sound more like a live concert, which is not always true. If a microphone was placed close to an instrument, the recorded sound of the instrument is tangible and clear. It is a departure from neutrality, but it is part of the world of recordings and of the art that it constitutes. So, the musical message is always very spatial and it is not tangible, while there is no low bass at all.”

Audiobytes Black Dragon Amp/Dac Review
April 6, 2016 Comments Off on Audiobytes Black Dragon Amp/Dac Review
“The Black Dragon amplifier puts out a maximum 700mW into 32 ohms and the less efficient HE-1000 performs best with amplifiers that have high current and can deliver over watt or more of clean power. The Dragon still was able to drive it without running out of steam on jazz or acoustic recordings but was challenged during large-scale dynamic recordings. Connick’s vocal and Marsalis’ sax sounded live and organic. The HE-1000 had them hovering in space and gave me that out of head experience that I often get while listening to this magnificent headphone,”

” This design was then submitted to a highly reputed cabinet maker that turned the drawing into a real world speaker enclosure. Pierre and his team were determined to make the speaker look as good as it sounded and so, to provide the livery for the speakers, they employed the services of a painter who specializes in painting Lamborghinis. Although they were very pleased with the Lamborgini quality finish, the ArtVibes team decided to go one step further. Being ardent art lovers they decided to give their customers an option that no other speaker manufacturer in the world has hitherto offered. They decided to combine art with the sound of music by offering their speakers with the exterior painted by a choice of four well-known, highly revered artists.”

” Listening to the second movement is even more intimate and emotional for me. Perahia starts off the second movement Largo superbly, making me feel as if time has stopped and as if I had been transported into a different world. This is Beethoven. The Audionet is not just about power and smart design. It also has finesse. Tons of it. This combo was able to get me so involved with the music that I forgot I was in the middle of reviewing this stuff. Can’t give a higher compliment than that.”
