Yes, I am impressed. Yes, I am ecstatic. Yes, I have a system that I can rely on to review and is emotionally engaging. No, it is not perfect. The challenge of adding six more components that require AC, all connected to each other and to the wall and to the amplifier, has introduced a bit of noise that previously was not there. The noise floor from the speakers is dead quiet and unaltered. But I am getting some noise from the subs that I am working through. A pair of VooDoo PowerMatik 4 power distributors running the sub AC to the same outlets as the amps helped to reduce ground-loop issues. Moving the ground from the amp chassis to shared RCA signal ground also made a big improvement. Getting the most from your system isn’t easy; even the most experienced of us have to put in time and elbow grease to squeeze that last bit of performance out of our systems. 

Yes, I did add some complexity with six subs as opposed to a pair of full-range speakers, but overall I have achieved what I set out to do. I have reclaimed funds, established a wonderful and “simpler” system that draws me in and won’t let me go, and I have a pair of speakers that, while heavy, are movable as needed for other reviews. I have less, but I have more. I have reduced and removed but increased and added. I should have titled this, “My audiophile dichotomy.”

That quality became a recurring theme throughout the review. The T+A PA 3100 HV combines the authority, control, and drive expected from a powerful Class AB design with a subtle warmth and harmonic richness that prevents it from sounding sterile or clinical. T+A has spoken openly about incorporating carefully controlled second-order harmonic behavior into the HV platform, and whether intentional or simply the cumulative result of the design, the amplifier consistently conveyed a level of refinement and musical ease that reminded me of some Accuphase products—albeit with less overt coloration and greater dynamic authority.

The APM deserves significant credit for those results. More importantly, it demonstrates why the T+A PA 3100 HV remains such an interesting product nearly a decade after its introduction. While most room-correction solutions rely on digital signal processing, T+A developed a set of analog-domain tools capable of addressing real-world acoustic problems without fundamentally altering the character of the amplifier. Used thoughtfully, the APM proved to be far more than a collection of tone controls—it became an integral part of extracting the best possible performance from both the system and the room.

These experiments nailed the capabilities of the Aurender N50 as a top-class music source. If you want to hear streams, downloads and even your CD rips at their best, and really can’t stretch to a quarter of a million (!) for the dCS Varèse, the N50 feeding a decent DAC would do very nicely indeed.

Combining Aurender’s super-slick operating system and app, the N50 has the capacity to compel a vivid, dynamic and thrilling sound from your choice of outboard converter. Just make sure to budget the extra for internal storage, and you won’t go wrong with what is an excellent keystone for a state-of-the-art digital music system.

Once again Noble has simply dominated their market segment with the Noble Audio Osprey TWS IEM. To be honest, it sounds better than most wired IEMs I have heard in its price range. Now it does suffer some of the shortcomings of lower-priced TWS: the ANC is noisier than the other FoKus models, offering a slight hiss for ANC, and a much louder his for Ambient mode, but that is a quibble as the noise levels that would necessitate the use of ANC are much greater than that hiss. The tonal balance, speed, soundstage, timbre of instruments, dynamic range, and most especially musicality raise the Osprey to a whole other category of sound from your average TWS regardless of price.

While the Noble FoKus Prestige still holds a special place in my heart due to its gorgeous wood and enamel finish on the charge case and matching pattern on the earpieces themselves, and the FoKus Rex dominates sonically,  I think due to its extreme value the Osprey has displaced them as my favorite TWS IEM.
