“Before hearing them, I was concerned that the Maargas would be hard-pressed to do justice to rock. I was wrong. The Rethms could indeed rock — not with the usual in-your-face, concussive, frontal assault, but in a more subterranean, earthquake kinda way when I turned them up loud. The flabbergasting thing was when I used them to listen to rock at low volumes. It’s hard to imagine that a speaker could deliver utterly compelling rock at a level of only 60dB, but that’s exactly what the Maargas did, and like no other speaker I’d heard.”

KEF Q750 Loudspeakers Review

“Like almost every hi-fi speaker now made by KEF, the Q750 is based on their Uni-Q driver technology. Uni-Qs are coaxial drivers; each one comprises a tweeter operating inside the cone of a midrange or midrange-woofer driver. This is done so that the soundwaves generated by the two drivers emanate from the same point in space, to make their combined output a “point source” of sound. (Only KEF’s lower-priced C models still use discrete tweeters and midrange or midrange-woofer cones.) The Q750’s Uni-Q has a 1” dome tweeter and a 6.5” midrange-woofer, the latter left unfiltered on its low end, to extend its output as low in the bass as possible. To add to the midrange-woofer’s bass to increase extension and output, the Q750 also has a 6.5” woofer augmented by two 6.5” passive radiators.”

CAYIN N5II REVIEW

“You get a fairly relaxed midrange that makes great use of the quiet background that this has, really giving an individual spotlight to each component and instrument that ends up sitting in the midrange. The lack of restriction is even more obvious in balanced but in single ended you still won’t be disappointed. Paired with a buttery smoothness I find the midrange to be quite stunning and am so happy to report that there is no upper midrange spike that can cause fatigue like so many Sabre’s before it. In fact I can say the same about the treble, which somehow stays smooth and doesn’t even lose to much of that impressive midrange body. Like the midrange and its use of space to improve imaging, the treble has great extension to provide air which aids the soundstage. These end up being some of the best initial factors you may notice with the Cayin, how big and accurate the soundscape is. ”

Top 10 Best Portable Music Players For Audiophiles – 2018 Edition

March 14, 2018 Comments Off on Top 10 Best Portable Music Players For Audiophiles – 2018 Edition

“There you have it guys; this is currently my list of the best portable music players available on the market that is geared towards the enthusiasts and audiophiles. Remember, all of these portable music players have fantastic sound quality. You may or may not hear any difference or differentiate the sound signature from one DAP to another using the same set of headphones or earphones. This all comes down to personal preference. Audio is a subjective topic, and what’s good for you may not be good for me. Just one thing, do yourself a favor, if ever you are going to buy one of these DAPs, be sure to load them with high resolution lossless audio files. Please don’t load them with a lossy and sometimes poorly encoded MP3 files. Otherwise it would defeat the purpose of getting one and you’re better off using your smartphone instead. Good luck!”

“The low is fitted and honed to the point where it strikes with authority and little else to muddle the way in its delivery. It is by no means a bass heavy headphone, but produces when the music calls for it. More importantly, it is tight and punchy when it counts. Listening to the bare bass guitar on the opening Jason Mraz’s I Won’t Give Up the Aeon, picked up the nuances of the string picking as well as the low impact of the final note that drops in the measure. While the Sennheiser HD650 on hand was also able to recreate some of that same feeling, there was a slight undertone of blur to the same string, fogging the picture.”

FIIO F9 PRO REVIEW

“You still get a similar emphasis compared to the F9 from 50-100Hz and a very slight sub-bass roll-off but it is not pushing down on the mids with that lower mid dip. Nor is it overly warming up instrumental timbre. As such, the F9 Pro presentation is a bit more balanced sounding than the F9, a touch more forgiving, and still delivering excellent resolution for this price point.”

“The sleek dimensions of the ULTRA 9 design fits nicely into any sound room yet brings all the transparency, attack, dynamic authority and panoramic soundstage of its larger sibling, the ULTRA 11. All the components and voicing are identical to that of the larger flagship, just “right sized” to fit real-world sound room dimensions. The ULTRA 9 projects a sound field that is so dynamic that it sounds like a far larger system.”

“Listeners who appreciate classical music and dynamic recordings will appreciate the transducers wide soundstage and layering. The air and space between musicians was well defined. The imaging and space with exceptional layering showcased every piece of the orchestra. When I closed my eyes I could feel the excitement of the orchestra and the speed and dynamics of the PS2000e always delivered the majestic performances with musicality, imaging with a first rate clear picture of the musicians and their individual sections. The outline of each section and musician was excellent and the air between the instrument and musician was special.”
