“Cymbals and massed sopranos did occasionally sound too prominent through the Sopras. Perhaps this was a consequence of an ever-so-slightly reticent upper midrange, the very thing that makes for the perfect treatment of classic rock and, perhaps, metal/grunge (just guessing). With the Sopras, the Classé Sigma Monos revealed the warts in recordings that had them, and I pretty quickly swapped them out. I better enjoyed analog amplifiers such as Parasound’s Halo A 31 and even Monoprice’s inexpensive Monolith 3: they obscured nothing, but neither did they throw anything in my face. A brief audition with the newly arrived ATi AT543nc amplifier was also promising.”

Audio Physic Tempo plus Loudspeaker Review

” The Tempo plus has no distinct frequency favourites. Nothing shouts out at you, even on french horn or operatic soprano recordings (conical bore french horn and soprano chest tones are among the most challenging sounds to record and regularly trip up a speaker’s performance). I heard no ‘chuffung’ from the rear port. Each octave balanced perfectly with each other. Bass is fulsome and goes down to 32Hz, plenty for most civilians. ”

“The low frequencies sound really wonderful. Not bloated, boosted, or overstated, there’s a unbroken, fluid transition from 300 Hz all the way down to the bottom of hearing range. If you’re a fan of the Dr. Chesky Headphone Demo Disk, you’ll love how the 18+ Pro perform on the “Shake, Rattle, and Roll Test” (a low frequency sweep down to 20 hZ.) There’s no one frequency range that suddenly pops up due to poor tuning; everything sounds flat and even.”

FIIO A5 REVIEW

“The second tweak for me is a slightly lower emphasis on vocal performance on the A5 over the E12a. The more elevated and planted low end of the A5 and slightly more forward treble will take a little away from the neutral vocal performance whereas the E12a has less low-end and treble emphasis allowing the vocals to come to the fore a bit more.”

Gryphon Audio Designs Antileon Evo Stereo Amplifier Review

” It’s not quite as quiet as either of the earlier amps, though so close that in listening it made no difference. After all, we don’t listen with an ear pressed against a tweeter, which was the only time I could hear any noise from the Evo. Although I’m now relying only on my memories of the sounds of those older amps, I can say that the Evo’s soundstaging was just a touch bigger than the Colosseum’s, and virtually matched the Mephisto’s. I also think the Evo sounded more, um, analog than the Mephisto or Colosseum. By which I mean not that its sound was “slower” or less resolving, but that it was so cohesive — entirely of a piece — and easygoing. Though the Antileon Evo has impressive resolving capabilities and admirable speed and agility, those traits didn’t stand out and call attention to themselves; instead, I simply appreciated how natural the Evo sounded with any music I threw at it.”

” As a reviewer I get to listen to products in all different price ranges from the affordable to the ultra expensive statement products. Never with any Chord product that has been in my listening room have I ever been disappointed. The Chord team continues to build world-class products that shake up the digital order of what is possible. The award winning Hugo opened many an eye to what was possible in transportable audio and the Mojo pushed the envelope higher with a much more affordable price and opened up thousands more to the realm of digital audio. Upon reviewing the DAVE I knew music listening would never be the same once it left so much so I had to purchase it.”

“This 140-watt-per-channel amplifier—the latest refinement of Quad’s innovative, patented, award-winning “current dumping” technology—is, in PS’ opinion, the finest amplifier the company has ever made by a good margin, and unquestionably the most uncompromised implementation of Walker’s current-dumping circuit.”

GamuT Di150 LE integrated amplifier Review

“Its price of $12,990 pits the GamuT Di150 LE against some serious integrated amplifiers, including the Mark Levinson No.585 ($12,000), the Ayre Acoustics AX-5 Twenty ($12,950), and the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 800 ($12,999)—all of which are listed in Class A of Stereophile’s “Recommended Components.” I’ve never heard in my system another amplifier, tubed or solid-state, that provided such enormous images or such speed, dynamics, and pure force. Emanating from “black” backgrounds of noiseless space, notes flew from the Di150 LE with purpose and punch, whether from LP or CD.”
