FIIO FH7S REVIEW

November 1, 2022 Comments Off on FIIO FH7S REVIEW

There are a lot of ear-tips inside, a total of 16 pairs. 2 of them are foams, and 2 more pairs are bi-flange tips. There are additional 9 pairs of silicone tips which are divided into “bass”, “vocal” and “balanced”. On top of all that, you get SpinFit tips for the flagship hybrid IEM. These weren’t present with the lower range FH5s model.

The tips are easily recognizable since they all have different colours. Once you memorize their colour you know which is which. Overall FiiO has covered the accessory part very well and you have absolutely everything you need inside. You even have an MMCX tool for making the detachable cable easier to work. Great attention to detail. Overall this is excellent packaging with a great presentation.

Wireworld Eclipse and Aurora Cables $1920 2M Review

November 1, 2022 Comments Off on Wireworld Eclipse and Aurora Cables $1920 2M Review

Wireworld is one of my favorite cable brands. They simply deliver great build quality, excellent customer service, and a good sounding, well reasoned product. There are those out there who will claim cables cannot and do not make a difference. I understand why they think that because I also used to think that. Wireworld was the company that proved me wrong. Every product I have used of theirs has made an improvement or a change that makes sense. The value in high end cabling is very much in the eye of the beholder. As someone with a mid five-figure 2-channel system, buying cables like this can make sense. However, as I said above, do not buy high end cabling (Wireworld’s entry-level lines are fantastic) for entry level systems. Do not buy flagship cabling for mid-level systems. There are better places to spend your money, but if you buy cabling that makes sense for the system you have, you will likely hear a difference, and you spend will be in line with the system you have. For those who are privileged enough to have a system like mine, Wireworld cabling is exceptional and has my highest recommendation. Audition it, touch it, try it, and I doubt you will return it.

SPL Elector/Performer s1200 Pre/Power Amplifier £2399/£6499  Review

October 31, 2022 Comments Off on SPL Elector/Performer s1200 Pre/Power Amplifier £2399/£6499  Review

From the simplicity of Matei Varga’s The Year That Never Was set [Sono Luminus DSL-92258; DSD128], with its solo piano works – the instrument rendered with gorgeous vibrancy – to the crisp Dausgaard/Swedish Chamber Orchestra recording of Brahms’s First Symphony [BIS 1756, 44.1kHz/24-bit], these SPL amplifiers are a revelation.

They seem able to deliver realistic weight and power while still keeping rhythms tight and the musical flow unstoppable. Although the Varga album shows a battered upright on the cover, his piano is beautifully captured in a lively studio atmosphere, while the Dausgaard recording shows a lightness of touch not common with what can become a real orchestral potboiler. And then there’s the conductor – taking the piece at a thrilling pace, while still building skilfully to the big theme in the symphony’s final movement.

ATLANTIC TECHNOLOGY FS-BTWS582 HEADPHONES $499 REVIEW

One odd thing I found (and this may just be me) but I found wearing the headphones backward to be far more comfortable when listening for extended periods of time. In the normal mode, they sat too far back on my head and felt like they were sliding back, pulling on my head. In reverse, they sit near perfectly at the top of my head. Let me know in the comments if you own a pair and have tried this out.

AudioQuest Dragon Interconnect $9500 Review

October 29, 2022 Comments Off on AudioQuest Dragon Interconnect $9500 Review

Last, and certainly not least, Dragon’s treble was simply stunning in its combination of openness and resolution on one hand, and smoothness and refinement on the other. One of my “go-to” evaluation tracks is “Ain’t Misbehavin’” performed by Bob James on the trio album Espresso (one of the best-sounding piano trio recordings I know of). On the intricate and subtle ride-cymbal work at the beginning of the bass solo, I heard a newfound delicacy, richness of detail, and treble purity. The treble was exquisitely detailed and finely filigreed, with no hint of hardness. The combination of high resolution and textural smoothness was extremely compelling, and greatly contributed to the musical involvement and overall ease of the presentation. If you audition Dragon, listen to how sibilance is less intrusive on an album like Diana Krall’s Turn Up the Quiet. The sibilance is still there, but it doesn’t have objectionable “ssss” component. This very fine resolution of treble detail was also apparent on “Beckus the Dandipratt” from The Arnold Overtures (Reference Recordings 176/24), particularly during a passage in which an unaccompanied snare drum is played at a barely perceptible volume. After installing Dragon, I could more clearly hear the inner detail and texture of the drum despite the vanishingly low signal level.

Technics SA-C600 $999 Review

October 29, 2022 Comments Off on Technics SA-C600 $999 Review

https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/technics-sa-c600

Mahler’s Symphony No.10 is a dense and demanding piece of classical music. The Technics does well, though to be fair if you’re after the last word in insight a well-chosen combination of separates will do better. Regardless, the SA-C600 captures the feel of the music convincingly, delivering a combination of drama and fluidity that grabs a firm hold of our attention. A claimed power output of 30 watts per channel (into 8 ohms) is pretty modest, but the SA-C600 exceeds expectations by sounding surprisingly authoritative and suitably large-scale.

The digital inputs maintain this high standard, provided the source is of the requisite quality, of course. It’s only when we feed a signal through the single line-level analogue input do we feel a tinge of disappointment, as it sounds a little more opaque and dynamically constrained than we’d hoped for. Oddly, the onboard moving magnet phono stage doesn’t exhibit these traits to any serious extent and sounds way better than is the norm from such built-in circuits. This phono stage is good enough for most price-compatible turntables, which is an unexpected but thoroughly pleasant surprise.

Triangle Antal 40th Anniversary Edition loudspeaker Review

Every Triangle speaker, from the cheapest to the most expensive, is designed at the company’s workshop in Soissons, France; most are built there. Why not Asia? “That’s a loaded topic,” Decelle said. “But we decided to continue to build our speakers in France. We even repatriated some of our other building projects. There are two reasons for that. Building locally gives us a level of quality we can’t get offshore. In France, we have speaker builders that have been with us for over 30 years. It’s their career choice. They know what the quality of every piece should be, and they have access to state-of-the-art quality-control facilities. It’s they who determine if our speakers meet our standards acoustically and cosmetically before they leave the plant.
