Magico A3 Floorstanding Speaker Review

“The cabinets are also simpler than the M, Q, and S Series Magico speakers, in that they have flat surfaces rather than curved components milled out of large blocks of aluminum. The flat front baffles mean more diffraction than with the M Series speakers. It is tradeoffs such as these that challenge designers; the question at the end of the day is whether Alon and the rest of the team at Magico made the right decisions. When I was visiting Magico, the company had just received a shipment of cabinets, and I looked at the fit and finish of a large group in case my review samples were a cherry-picked pair. All of the cabinets exhibited a very nicely grained brushed aluminum finish identical to my review samples.”

SVS Prime Wireless Speaker System

“With the speaker system connected via Ethernet, I start with a selection of ALAC files. I kick off with Górecki’s Symphony No.3 by the Polish National Radio Symphony, featuring Beth Gibbons. This recording shortens the lengthy introduction of the first movement, and the Prime Wireless grasps the more sudden appearance of the double bass with gusto to deliver a rich tone with the strings. It creates a pleasantly spacious and open sound considering its size, and maintains plenty of space between the strings, allowing the melodies to gracefully intertwine, and – with plenty of power from those four amps – effortlessly soar and fill the room.
The Prime Wireless captures the warmth and sadness of Gibbons’ voice, particularly in the second movement, where the speaker is delicate and clear enough to pick out the whisper of her opening notes, and the fragile tremor that conveys the heartbreak of a mourning mother.

Lumin X1 Network Player Review

“Using this gorgeous art piece was an aesthetic and musical joy from initial power up ‘till review’s end. I’ve not seen a more beautiful high end component in my music room.
Equal to its visual beauty are the multi functions, ease of use, and, above all, the beautiful sound it enables. Yet, like all great components, the N51 doesn’t have a sound signature per se. What it does brilliantly and beautifully is prepare and amplify digital and vinyl signals so they always sound their very best. Many components desire plenty of refined power—no nonsense energy from which music can flow and energize the listener and the room. Hand in hand down a musical lane—two against the world. The MBL N51 worked perfectly with my components. It endowed each to their musical fullest. As such, I’ve never heard them sound better or as cohesively from an integrated source. I dare say, you could place the N51 in any components’ company and it would accept the musical challenges and surpass your expectations.”

Burson Conductor 3 Review

“Yet, I feel it to be as such in this product. When I listen, then walk away and go about my business elsewhere, the quality points I miss most and salivate for are the creamy, luscious midrange that is beyond pure. Combined with immense purity, the midrange is also extremely hefty and dense, lacking nothing in the way of weight carried.
Again, typically, neutral-sounding amps and sources do not carry a ton of heft, they don’t sound dense…typically. In this case, the Conductor 3 is without a doubt the most engrossing and hyperactive source when it comes to the midrange vocal experience. In fact, I am just fine saying it is the best DAC I’ve ever reviewed. Punching seriously above its weight class in purity factor for the price.”

SONUS FABER OLYMPICA NOVA V TOWER SPEAKER $16,500 REVIEW
December 28, 2019 Comments Off on SONUS FABER OLYMPICA NOVA V TOWER SPEAKER $16,500 REVIEW
“It pains me to say, but as much as I love the original Olympica IIIs that have anchored my media room setup for four years now, the new Olympica Nova Vs are superior in every way imaginable. The three woofers on the Olympica Nova Vs offer a significant improvement in bass output as well as depth. More surprising is that even with the additional bass, the Olympica Nova Vs were less sensitive to positioning in my room. This bass also seemed to blend better with the midrange, creating a more cohesive experience. The Olympica Nova Vs sound phenomenal with well-recorded classical and jazz yet can totally rock out if you prefer more dynamic styles of music, like EDM or Metal. The larger cabinet and improved construction seem to have made a fuller-bodied sounding speaker as well. Male and female vocals are handled with equal aplomb. Much like their predecessors, they present great detail and dynamics without crossing over towards harsh or clinical sound. “

Technics SL-1200G Turntable Review

“
Those, such as myself, who already own an SL-1200 mk2 will say, “okay yes, so what is new?” To that, I would reply that the difference between the two generations of decks is that the new one is subtly smoother, quieter and less aggressive sounding. It’s just as much fun as the oldie – indeed even more so – but has fewer obvious drawbacks, more of which later…
The SL-1200G’s overall musicality is the deck’s standout feature, and hard to ignore – even when compared to more expensive superdecks. Yes, this Technics does have character – but it’s a good one and hard not to love. Where a number of mid-to-high price belt drives fall over themselves to be detailed, incisive, even-handed and tonally accurate, this iconic direct drive just dives straight into the music and has a ball. Play Chic‘s Good Times or indeed any similarly beat-driven seventies disco-era tune, and you’ll see what I mean. “

AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt USB DAC/Headphone Amp Review

https://www.hifinews.com/content/audioquest-dragonfly-cobalt-usb-dacheadphone-amp
“The latest arrival in the DragonFly range is a huge step up from the already impressive Black and Red models, being capable of levels of performance that are nothing short of stellar. Fast, weighty, dramatic and super-clean, the sound is superb with portable devices, and more than impressive enough for ‘main system’ use, too – at which point it will be embarrassing many a larger, and pricier, rival.”
